POCOMOKE CITY, Md.- A mother and her 4-year-old daughter were killed after being run over Thursday night in Pocomoke City.

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office says the crash occurred at around 10:33 p.m. on Route 13. According to Pocomoke City Police, 19-year-old Delia Bailey of Pocomoke City, was walking from the Wal-Mart shopping center and carrying her daughter across the four-lane highway that was not lit. Police say Bailey was not in a crosswalk nor was she crossing the highway at an intersection.

According to police, Bailey stepped into the fast lane and was struck by a northbound vehicle.

Both Bailey and her daughter were killed from the impact. Investigators say both victims lived in an apartment complex across near the highway crossing.

No charges have been filed against the driver. Police say the driver was not hurt. The accident remains under investigation.

This was the second fatal crash in Worcester County on Thursday involving a mother carrying her child across a roadway. The first occurred in Ocean City at 62nd street. That crash, which occurred in the late afternoon, is being investigated by Ocean City police.
