Two Tractor-Trailer Crash w/ Hazmat
Wednesday, July 23, 2025

On 7/23/25 at 2:41 AM, the Pocomoke City Vol. Fire Co. was alerted for a motor vehicle crash in the area of Southbound Rt. 13 and Peach Orchard Rd. Units arrived to find a T-bone type crash involving two tractor-trailers. Both trucks sustained significant damage, with one found to have a significant fuel leak and the other losing part of its load on the roadway. Due to the active leak and volume of fuel spilled, a response from the Worcester County Hazmat Team was requested.
Pocomoke units, Hazmat team members, and resources (comprised of the Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office, Department of Emergency Services, and other county fire companies' hazmat personnel) worked to mitigate the fuel spill and pumped off remaining fuel. The Maryland State Highway Administration responded to assist with traffic control and spill mitigation cleanup. Southbound Ocean Hwy was shut down for several hours. Pocomoke City Emergency Medical Services transported one patient to an area hospital. Maryland Department of the Environment was notified of the incident.
Fire crews cleared the scene just before 6 AM. Note: in most cases, professional cleanup crews respond to incidents such as this to ensure proper cleanup and disposal. Maryland State Police Princess Anne Barrack is handling the investigation of this crash.
